The Chicken versus the Egg as one agent described it. You can’t onboard the hiring side with out having workers to fill the need. The hiring side wants folks to answer the need in minutes, but you don’t have anyone just yet. But you can’t onboard workers without having some work for the them. So goes the vicious circle of doubt.
You’ll read more in the markets section on how various folks got around this problem. Many times they were the first worker in their area. Worked the jobs they sold until they found others to work them. Some of our pilot customers already had a contact database in their telephones and notebooks. We found that it never hurt to ask if they had regular gig workers that they recommended.
But the most important aspect of recruiting workers on to the platform is getting reliable and high quality workers. They represent you in your market. And as tempting it is to run down to the local Home Depot to find folks, the effort you invest up front in quality will help you in the long run.
Put yourself in a home owner’s view. You sold them to get small tasks done for cheap around the home. The first person that shows up does a sloppy job and causes more damage than fixes. Would that home owner every use Hefe again?
You know the answer, but cutting the corner on the worker side, you just lost that hard earned sign up and all that future passive income that comes with it. Is it worth it?
How do we help you solve this Quality Problem?
Worker profiles are basic and straightforward. How many jobs they worked and what is the overall rating of the worker over time. As time moves forward, the hiring side can make their own judgments on who they hire base on this information. But when you are launching the service in your community, much of this information will be zero. That is why it is critical for you to get the best at first, then later, after you are established in your community, do you recruit folks that you might not know as well.
